Presenting a wine experience out of the ordinary

When news of Covid hit in the spring of 2020 I was sitting at home reading about the fantastic year for German Riesling 2019 had been. The futures were going on sale and I bought 20 cases of the highest quality, GG (Grosses Gewächs), from 20 of the best Rieslings Germany has to offer.

Before the World Wars German Riesling once was the most expensive wine in the world, being served to the 1st class passengers on the Titanic. After WW2 it had fallen out of favour, so much so, that mainly Liebfraumilch, Blue Nun, Black Tower and other sweet concoctions were being sold all over the world, creating hangovers out of the ordinary. These days, German Rieslings are, once again, often boutique vinyards with small productions that are rapidly becoming favorites of the wine world.

As for what I have bought, dry, fresh and mineralistic Rieslings that have been sitting in my professional wine storage for the last 5 years. Unlike other white wines, Rieslings profit greatly from some years in storage. This helps to reduce the acid that comes with the territory and allows the fruit flavours to come out.

Of course, I have way too much wine to drink by myself so I am proposing an event to share this special wine experience with like minded wine enthusiasts. Who knows, maybe one of many…

I am not proposing a tasting event where one can buy wines afterwards, but an experience where everyone buys a share of the wines on offer and we drink them together. I am charging what these wines would fetch at auction, if they were available, as I would much rather enjoy them in the company of  new and old friends. This is why this event is limited to 12 people; to keep it personal.

The beautiful surroungings of 1923 Botanic will be perfect for the event and possibly some drinks afterwards. Looking forward to meeting new people that are as keen as I am on wine experiences.
